CHINA ROSE NEWSLETTER – SUMMER 2016

Welcome to our anniversary year where we have much to celebrate! 25 Years at our current South Parade premises and a staggering 30 years in business in Bawtry!

It was in 1991 that we moved here, quadrupling our covers to 170. Who would have thought that such success and popularity would follow, making it one of the finest Cantonese restaurants in the region. We remain true to the values we believe make a great restaurant – a warm and friendly atmosphere, freshly cooked, innovative Cantonese food using the finest ingredients and all whilst evolving too.

Husband and wife team Head Chef Jason Kwan and Restaurant Manager Carly Hui who assumed responsibility for the day to day running of the restaurant, taking over the reins from the much loved General Manager and partner to owner Louis Wan, Estelle Johnston in 2013, continue to drive forward the restaurant into the next chapter of its history.

Thank you to all friends and customers for your continued support -Jason Kwan & Carly Hui and China Rose team.

Voted No.1

Each year Eastside, our local lifestyle magazine, host a blind Champagne Tasting evening just in time for the festive season. We were so impressed with the winner back in 2014 that we added it to our wine list! The champagne was a great hit and almost the entire panel agreed it was one of their favourites with everyone loving the special white bottle too. With its pink, subtle coppered hue and delicate red fruit notes and cherry aromas Canard Duchene Charles V11 Smooth Rose is a seductive Champagne, ideal for a truly memorable aperitif or to accompany refined, rich and flavoursome dishes. We’re delighted to offer it to you and are proud to say it’s helped celebrate some momentous occasions over the last couple of years!

Available at £59 per bottle.

Did I hear a cork pop? Think a glass or two of Champagne is in order 🙂

It’s such a pleasure working with Estelle, Louis and the dedicated team at this quality and service driven “Jewel in the Crown” of Cantonese Restaurants. Twenty five years on and retaining the admiration, respect and envy of so many restaurants on such continued and sustained success. Good food, good wine, good life…”

Restaurant Supports Healthy Eating Plans

D ining out can be one of the biggest challenges when you’re watching the calories and often thwarts the best of intentions but China Rose has recognised the dilemma this can pose and in 2015 launched a range of dishes endorsed by Weight Watchers.

“It was important to us to promote the general health benefits of Cantonese food and to take this one step further by producing dishes recognised by the Weight Watchers ‘ProPoint scheme,” commented Carly Hui, Restaurant Manager “We were delighted to work with representatives in the area to create some amazing dishes, full of flavour and that meet the ‘ProPoint’ values associated with the programme.”

Dishes include flavours typically associated with Cantonese food and are freshly prepared using the finest ingredients by the China Rose team. Most are also categorised as “Filling and Healthy’ foods on the Weight Watchers plan. The special menu includes Minced Vegetables with Lettuce, Chicken with Ginger & Spring Onions and Beansprouts &
Broccoli.

Debbie Waby, Weight Watchers leader who co-ordinates several meetings in the local area commented “To have a night out and still stay in control when following the Weight Watchers plan is so inspiring and I commend China Rose staff for such an innovative and supportive approach.”

China Rose has a dedicated Gluten Free Menu and, subject to prior notice, is happy to cater for any other special dietary requirement.

SHOWTIME – Nights of Great Food and Great Live Music!

You can enjoy a delicious two course meal with tea or coffee and then dance the night away to some fantastic live music from £29.95pp.

We’ve welcomed quality tribute acts including Take That, Elvis, Motown, The Jerseys and ABBA and, with a packed schedule for 2016, with many dates already sold out, don’t leave it too long before you join the ‘Showtime’ Party!

Meet Head Chef – Jason Kwan

The love of Cantonese food has always been in Jason Kwan’s blood so he was more than happy to come over from Hong Kong to work in the family restaurant. “I can recall helping in the kitchen at home from a very young age and over the years developed a real passion for creating amazing Chinese food,” said Jason. “People eat with their eyes first and their taste buds second so I always create a picture of how I want the dish to look and then perfect the ingredients.”

Jason, 42, has been head chef since 2012 and has a team of seven chefs working with him to create the delicious menu using the finest and freshest ingredients, which also sees gluten free and Weight Watchers options available. ‘We want to make our food accessible to everyone so we are very happy to accommodate any special dietary requirements,” said Jason. “This is just one reason why China Rose is such a popular restaurant along with our opulent surroundings, friendly service and warm welcome.”

Private Parties

We love a party at China Rose and host great private parties including welcoming our friends from Elite Hair every Christmas as well as the Bawtry Retail Association. This year we’re also pleased to help another Bawtry business celebrate their 85th anniversary, Yorkshire Caravans of Bawtry. We are also home to the legendary Robinsons of Bawtry Fashion Show which we have been hosting for over 20 years and has seen them raise over £320,000 for Yorkshire Cancer Research. We’ve also got a private function room that is simply perfect for smaller private celebrations and corporate functions. It can hold up to seventy people and you can make the space your own to suit the occasion.

Christmas at China Rose

The festive season at China Rose is always a great time of year. Dates for your diary this year include ‘Showtime’ with a tribute to Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons on Thursday 15th December and Party nights on Wednesday’s 7th and 14th December. Great for family, work or just a get together with friends, we can promise you good food and a good time!

We are delighted to welcome the fabulous 8-piece ’Schwing’ band as our live entertainment at this year’s New Year’s Eve extravaganza event performing up tempo swing, rat pack, good time jazz, pop & soul. Together with a delicious 5 course meal, customary free prize draw with prizes up to the value of £500, traditional Lion Dance and Piper we can think of no better place to welcome 2017.

Bawtry Retail Association

The Year of the Monkey

In February we celebrated the Chinese New Year and welcomed in the ‘Year of the Monkey’. We enjoyed music from Soul Survivors and a performance from the Mabo Lion Dance group who have been helping us celebrate this occasion for as long as we can remember – once again making it a night to remember. The year of the Monkey says that lucky numbers for ‘Monkeys’ are 4 and 9 whilst red and pink is deemed unlucky on a colour front!

Pensioners Celebrations

Last October we celebrated the festival of the ancestors ‘Chongyang’ and invited pensioners resident in Bawtry to join us for a complimentary celebratory lunch. Following its success China Rose will once again be welcoming 150 Bawtry pensioners on Sunday 26th June as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations. Our guests will enjoy a complimentary three course Chinese meal with tea and coffee and entertainment from the 40’s swing band ‘Swingamathing’. “Family is held in very high esteem in Chinese culture with the young and elderly receiving extra special attention,” said Restaurant Manager Carly. “Celebrating our special anniversary with our local community will be extra special and should be an afternoon that we will all remember for years to come.”

Take Away Menu

Love our food? Need our food? But just want to spend some time at home with the family? Then take advantage of our take away menu! It’s available each night until 10pm, with last orders on a Saturday at 7pm. It’s collection only but imagine; no cooking, a box set DVD and our delicious food. It’s no substitute for the China Rose restaurant experience, but it comes a pretty close second!
