30 YEARS AND BETTER THAN EVER

A hugely popular Cantonese restaurant in the upmarket town of Bawtry, Doncaster is celebrating an amazing 30 years in business.

China Rose restaurant, located on South Parade and owned by the Wan family, has over the years demonstrated true staying power by evolving with the changing times whilst remaining true to their vision – to deliver freshly cooked, innovative Cantonese food, using the finest ingredients, in opulent surroundings.

“I can’t believe where the time has gone but I am hugely proud of what we have achieved and the superb reputation that the restaurant has,” said Estelle Johnston China Rose. “In 2000 co-owner Louis Wan’s nephew Jason Kwan moved over from Hong Kong later joined by his wife Carly Hui bringing new ideas for the future to ensure we continue to grow and prosper.”

The restaurant originally opened in July 1985 and moved to its current premises in 1991 quadrupling its covers to 170. Since then it has grown in stature and popularity gaining a reputation as one of the finest Cantonese restaurants in the region.

In 2012 husband and wife team Head Chef Jason Kwan and Restaurant Manager Carly Hui assumed responsibility for the day to day running of this long established favourite of the Bawtry social scene taking over the reins from General Manager Estelle Johnston.

“China Rose is a truly special place and we are so proud to work with a great team and fantastic customers,” said Carly Hui China Rose. “It remains hugely popular as a place for special celebrations but the introduction of our ‘Showtime’ nights in 2013 with amazing tribute acts accompanying a Cantonese banquet have encouraged a whole new client base to enjoy our delicious dishes and great atmosphere. Coupled with our eye catching interior designed by Nigel Oxby of Englishman’s Castle, it really is a great place to be.”
China Rose is an active part of the Bawtry and local business community. It was one of the first members of Bawtry Retail Association and continues to pledge its support with sponsorship of the annual Visit Bawtry Race Day and Visit Bawtry Polo Cup. Other charities that it supports include PACT (Parents Association of Children with Tumours and Leukaemia), British Heart Foundation and Yorkshire Cancer Research – the chosen charity of the illustrious Robinsons of Bawtry Charity Fashion Show which takes places annually at the restaurant and has to date raised over £280,000.

“Carly concluded, “Thirty years is a long time to be in business and our success lays in a true desire to be a place where people can relax and enjoy great food in a friendly atmosphere. We look forward to many more years of welcoming old friends and new to our restaurant.”

China Rose is open each day from 5.30pm – 11pm. Booking is essential and the restaurant operates a smart dress code.
