POLO CUP A HUGE SUCCESS FOR LOCAL CHARITY

The fourth annual Visit Bawtry Polo Cup, attracting a record attendance of 800 people, has generated its biggest amount so far for local cancer charity Aurora Wellbeing Centres with a staggering £9,200 being raised in just a matter of hours thanks to the support of Robinsons of Bawtry and sponsors Green Eco Grants Ltd.

The charity knock-out polo event took place at the Vale of York Polo Club at Misson with eight teams sponsored by Bawtry businesses taking to the pitch to do battle as guests watched from the side lines with picnics or from the comfort of the Robinsons Champagne Marquee which had catering, live music playing all afternoon by the fabulous VIBE jazz band and a champagne and Peroni bar.  Robinsons of Bawtry also organised a Champagne raffle which raised £2,300 for the charity with the first prize of a champagne hamper being presented to Nick Bennett.

“Our teams gave it their all and the crowd really entered into the spirit of the day making it a truly memorable event,” commented Rebecca Dickenson Chair Bawtry Retail Association and director of The Vanilla Rooms. “And, I am particularly proud as my team, for which I played as patron for the 2nd year running, finally managed to knock the undefeated winners the Crown Hotel from the podium and seize the winners’ cup with a 2-0 win!”

In addition to the excitement of the polo matches spectators battled it out to claim the Best Picnic Table sponsored by Debenhams which was won by The Bagley Family, China Rose of Bawtry sponsored the Best Dressed Lady and Best Dressed Gent who, by complete coincidence was Jamie Loftus, MD of Green Eco Grants Ltd, headline sponsor for this year’s event. Plus guests looked on in amazement as they were treated to an unexpected fly past by the Vulcan.

Jamie commented, “This was our first visit to the Visit Bawtry Polo Cup and we were delighted to be associated with such an amazing event which has generated so much money for this fantastic local charity. The team spirit and atmosphere was superb – a real testament to the hard work and dedication of Robinsons of Bawtry and the Bawtry Retail Association.”

Teams sponsored by the Crown Hotel, China Rose, Fine and Country, Robinsons of Bawtry, The Vanilla Rooms, Suttons Capital Allowances, Max Design Consultancy and Yasmine of Bawtry took to the field with the final taking place between Max Design Consultancy and The Vanilla Rooms.

During the event spectators enjoyed a hog roast and polo themed Barbecue by Jaysters Catering and The Pizza Guy served delicious gourmet pizza fresh from his wood fired pizza oven in the back of his converted Land Rover. Thaymar Ice Cream Van and The Street Caffe also attended plus over 100 bottles of champagne and prosecco were sold from the Champagne bar provided by 31 Market Place Cocktail Bar & Bistro.

“This was another superb event and we thank everyone for their generous donations to our charity,” commented Peter Bradley Campaign Manager, Aurora Wellbeing Centres.  “This event is becoming a significant contributor to our fundraising events and we look forward to their ongoing support.”

Next year’s event will take place on Sunday 3rd July 2016.
